GOP presidential front-runner Donald Trump said Wednesday the next president should be the one to fill the current vacancy on the Supreme Court.

“I think the next president should make the pick, and I think they shouldn’t go forward and I believe I’m pretty much in line with what the Republicans are saying,” Mr. Trump said on CNN’s “New Day.” “I think that the next president should make the pick.”

President Obama is scheduled to announce his pick to fill the Supreme Court vacancy, left by the recent death of Justice Antonin Scalia, at 11 a.m. Wednesday.

Senate Republican leaders, including Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, have likewise said the next president should be the one to put forward a nominee to fill the vacancy. Mr. Trump and Mr. McConnell spoke by phone on Tuesday.
