Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump said Wednesday that former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is an embarrassment to the United States.
“Well, I think she’s an embarrassment to our country,” Mr. Trump said on CNN’s “New Day.” “She doesn’t have the strength or the stamina to be president, frankly, as far as I’m concerned.”
“She doesn’t have strength. She doesn’t have the stamina,” he said. “She talks about defeat our enemies. Well, where has she been for the last year? We can’t even beat ISIS. She’s not defeating our enemy. She wouldn’t know how to defeat the enemy. It’s ridiculous. … I think she’s an embarrassment, and we’ll see what happens.”
In her victory speech Tuesday, Mrs. Clinton had alluded to Mr. Trump.
“Our commander in chief has to be able to defend our country, not embarrass it,” Mrs. Clinton said. “Engage our allies, not alienate them, defeat our adversaries — not embolden them. When we hear a candidate for president call for rounding up 12 million immigrants, banning all Muslims from entering [the] United States, when he embraces torture, that doesn’t make him strong — it makes him wrong.”
Mrs. Clinton and Mr. Trump both won the presidential primaries for their respective parties in Florida, North Carolina and Illinois on Tuesday, and held narrow leads in Missouri as of Wednesday morning.
On the Democratic side, Mrs. Clinton also won Ohio, while on the Republican side, Mr. Trump finished second there to Gov. John Kasich.
