Ohio Gov. John Kasich on Monday laughed off the apparent support GOP presidential front-runner Donald Trump has gotten from former Cincinnati Reds player and manager Pete Rose ahead of the Ohio primary Tuesday — though Mr. Kasich said his wife believes Mr. Rose should be in the baseball Hall of Fame.

“Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha,” Mr. Kasich said on Fox News Monday when asked about Mr. Rose’s support, claimed by Mr. Trump on social media Sunday evening.

“My wife will be disappointed — she’s always wanted Rose to go in the Hall of Fame. She’s going to probably have to take a second look at that,” Mr. Kasich said.

Mr. Rose, Major League Baseball’s all-time hits leader, received a lifetime ban in 1989 for gambling on games.

“Ha, ha, ha — Pete Rose. Come on,” Mr. Kasich said. “Ha, ha, ha.”

Campaigning in Ohio Sunday, Mr. Trump also called for Mr. Rose to be let into the Hall of Fame, according to cincinnati.com.
