The Washington Redskins re-signed tight end Logan Paulsen to a one-year deal on Friday, according to a person familiar with the situation. Paulsen missed the entire 2015 season after having surgery on his right big toe in the preseason.

Paulsen is entering his seventh season with the Redskins after being signed as an undrafted free agent in 2010. Prior to last season, Paulsen did not miss a game since he played 11 in his rookie season. He has 79 career receptions for 801 yards and six touchdowns and has served as the Redskins’ primary blocking tight end.

Last year, both Paulsen and tight end Niles Paul underwent season-ending surgery in the same week. Paul broke his ankle in the Redskins’ preseason opener against the Cleveland Browns and is under contract the next two seasons. Paul had a career-high 39 receptions for 507 yards in 2014.

Washington’s depth at tight end was tested last season. With Jordan Reed as the primary receiver, the Redskins turned to Derek Carrier as their main blocking tight end. Carrier was acquired on Aug. 21 for a fifth-round pick and tore the ACL and MCL in his right knee in Week 14 against the Chicago Bears.

Carrier, who expects to be ready for the start of the season, is also under contract for the next two years. The Redskins also have tight end Marcel Jensen under contract after signing him on Dec. 22.
