President Obama poked fun at the Canadian birth of Texas Sen. Ted Cruz Thursday night during a state dinner at the White House with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
During his toast, Mr. Obama said that both the U.S. and Canada offer extraordinary opportunities for their citizens. Just look at the 2016 Republican presidential contest, Mr. Obama said.
“Where else could a boy born in Calgary run for president of the United States?” Mr. Obama asked, a reference to Mr. Cruz, whose eligibility to run for the White House has been called into question by frontrunner Donald Trump.
Mr. Cruz and Mr. Trump were locked in a presidential debate in Miami while the president was making his comments.
