GOP presidential front-runner Donald Trump on Tuesday knocked former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton for recently talking about making America “whole again,” hinting that he might put the line head-to-head with his own campaign pledge to “make America great again.”
“Hillary cannot make America great,” Mr. Trump said at a rally in Ohio. “She was talking about something yesterday, making America whole, whole. No, no, I don’t want whole. I want great again.
“I think I’ll use that as a commercial,” he said. “We’ll make a split screen. She’ll be saying ’we’re going to make America whole,’ whatever that means — I don’t think she knows what it means. We’re going to make America whole, and I’ll be saying, ’we’re going to make America great again.’”
After her resounding win in South Carolina over the weekend, Mrs. Clinton, the Democratic presidential front-runner, had said: “Despite what you hear, we don’t need to make America great again — America has never stopped being great.”
“But we do need to make America whole again,” she said. “Instead of building walls, we need to be tearing down barriers. We need to show by everything we do that we really are in this together.”
Mr. Trump is already casting his gaze beyond the Super Tuesday states. After the stop in Columbus, he is scheduled to hold a campaign rally in Kentucky, which holds its nominating contest Saturday, before heading to Florida on Tuesday. Ohio and Florida both vote on March 15.
