The District’s Fox affiliate, WTTG, will expand its election coverage heading into the summer and fall with a weeknight newscast called “5 @ 6:30,” set to bow on July 18.

“This election is unlike any we have ever seen,” Fox 5 President and News Director Paul McGonagle said in a statement. “It deserves unconventional and original political reporting. ’5 @ 6:30’ on will be the local political show to watch in D.C.”

Fox 5’s Shawn Yancy and Jim Lokay will host the show, and political reporters Tom Fitzgerald and Ronica Cleary will contribute. The show will offer segments from the District’s Old Ebbitt Grill, located but a stone’s throw from the White House. The show will also travel to the Republican National Convention in Cleveland and the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia in Philadelphia this summer.

With the expansion of such coverage, WTTG will now offer 59 hours of of local news — the most of any station in the District market.
