California state Sen. Isadore Hall was served with a subpoena Tuesday night during his own primary victory party in San Pedro.
CBS Los Angeles’ Jeff Nguyen was on the scene when a process server approached Mr. Hall in the parking lot. The Democrat was celebrating his primary win for South Los Angeles’s 44th Congressional District seat.
“Sir, I’m serving you, sir,” the process server said to Mr. Hall as a woman tried to block him from handing over the papers.
Mr. Hall is being subpoenaed for a deposition in a lawsuit in which the plaintiffs are trying to determine if he was involved with a real estate deal at a condominium complex where he now resides, CBS reported.
The dispute is over a rent-to-buy arrangement that’s being contested. The case is scheduled to start in late October, the station said.
Mr. Hall has also been accused by his primary opponent, Nanette Barragan, of campaign finance violations.
