Donald Trump on Tuesday won the New Jersey Republican primary.

The win in New Jersey was largely overshadowed by the blowback Mr. Trump has received over questioning an Indiana-born federal judge’s objectivity because of his Mexican heritage.

Mr. Trump was expected to address the controversy during an election night event outside New York City Tuesday night.

Networks called the race in New Jersey shortly after the polls closed at 8 p.m. New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, who suspended his presidential campaign early on in the primary race, has served as a top surrogate for Mr. Trump.

The political world also was closely watching the Democratic race, where Hillary Clinton was looking to erase any doubt that she is the party’s presumptive, as voters headed to the polls in California and five other contests.

Republican voters, meanwhile, also headed to the polls in California, Montana, New Mexico and South Dakota.

Mr. Trump clinched the GOP presidential nomination last month, weeks after chasing Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas and Ohio Gov. John Kasich, his last two rivals, from the race.
