Presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump jumped ahead of Democrat counterpart Hillary Clinton in a new poll, breaking out a four-point lead after trailing for weeks in a theoretical matchup for the November election.
Mr. Trump topped Mrs. Clinton 43 percent to 39 percent in the The Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey released Thursday.
The poll found that 12 percent of voters were still undecided.
The former secretary of state had beat Mr. Trump by 5 points in the same poll the prior two weeks.
It was Mr. Trump’s highest level of support in a Rasmussen Reports matchup against Mrs. Clinton since October. His support has hovered around 40 percent, according to the pollsters.
“It remains to be seen whether he’s just having a good week or this actually represents a real move forward among voters,” they said.
Most recent polls have shown Mrs. Clinton ahead of the billionaire businessman. The Real Clear Politics average of recent polls, which includes the Rasmussen Reports survey, put Mrs. Clinton on top by 4.9 points, 44.7 percent to 39.8 percent.
