A Democrat who lost Tuesday to U.S. Rep. Jerrold Nadler quoted the popular Broadway musical “Hamilton” and attributed it to the real founding father.
“As Alexander Hamilton says, ’This is not a moment, this is the movement,’” Oliver Rosenberg said during a debate Monday between the two Democratic candidates on WYNC’s “The Brian Lehrer Show,” CNN reported.
“’Foes oppose us. We take an honest stand. We roll like Moses claiming our promised land.’ Rise up, rise up and vote,” he added.
That quote was actually written by Lin-Manuel Miranda, creator of the Broadway musical “Hamilton,” which premiered last year.
It’s unclear whether Mr. Rosenberg was aware he was quoting Hamilton the character and not Hamilton, the author of the Federalist Papers.
Mr. Rosenberg lost the Tuesday primary to Mr. Nadler, with only 10 percent of the vote. Mr. Nadler will move on to face Republican opponent Philip Rosenthal in the general election, Fox News reported.
