Washington Nationals starter Stephen Strasburg had an MRI on Monday that did not show any further problems with his upper back strain, according to manager Dusty Baker. Baker was short on details, but said that he was pleased with the news about Strasburg’s MRI.
As was the right-hander. He came into the clubhouse covered in sweat after throwing a bullpen session with pitching coach Mike Maddux on Tuesday afternoon. Strasburg is eligible to come off the 15-day disabled list on Friday. Top prospect Lucas Giolito was scheduled to make his major league debut on Tuesday night in Strasburg’s place.
Strasburg was placed on the disabled list on June 26, retroactive to June 16. He was scratched from two consecutive starts before being placed on the disabled list. Though the injury is listed as an upper back strain, Baker and Strasburg both had mentioned discomfort in the pitcher’s ribs.
