Former Sen. Scott Brown of Massachusetts said Sen. Elizabeth Warren — who defeated him in the 2012 election — can answer any questions about her Native American heritage by taking a DNA test.
Mr. Brown has emerged as a vocal surrogate for presumptive GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump, who has billed Mrs. Warren as “Pocahontas” and accused her of lying about her heritage, alluding to claims she made during her 2012 campaign.
Mr. Brown raised questions Monday after Mrs. Warren campaigned with presumptive Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton.
“As we all know, she’s not Native American,” Mr. Brown said in a conference call, according to news reports. “She’s not 1/32. She has no Native American background except for what her family told her,” he said. “The easy answer on that, as you all know, is that Harvard [University] and [University of Pennsylvania] can release the records. She can authorize the release of those records. She can take a DNA test. She can release the records herself. There’s never been any effort. “
