The White House blasted a special House committee Monday for trying to interview President Obama about his actions on the night of the Benghazi attack, saying there’s photographic proof that the president was working on the crisis at the White House.
“It’s not surprising to me that Republicans want to look at every possible crevice for a new conspiracy,” said White House deputy press secretary Eric Schultz. “This is a Republican conspiracy theory in search of a conspiracy.”
White House counsel Neil Eggleston sent a letter Saturday to the House special committee investigating the Benghazi attack, rejecting the panel’s request to ask Mr. Obama questions about his actions on the night of the attack on the U.S. diplomatic and CIA compound in Libya in September 2012. Four Americans including Ambassador Christopher Stevens were killed.
Mr. Schultz said “if you’re wondering where the president was that night,” the White House had posted a photograph online of Mr. Obama “getting briefed by his White House team” on the attack.
“It’s 100 percent authentic,” Mr. Schultz said of the photo.
