Comedian Jay Leno nearly got himself killed while attempting to knock an automotive goal off his “bucket list.”

Mr. Leno and iconic drag racer Bob Riggle recently went to Irwindale Speedway in California to film a second-season episode of “Jay Leno’s Garage.” The two men then took off in a 2,500-horsepower Hemi Under Glass for a ride they will never forget.

“This is bucket list for me,” Mr. Leno said after noting how an elementary school teacher once ripped up his copy of Hot Rod magazine.

Mr. Riggle successfully launched his Plymouth Barracuda up on two wheels moments later, but then jerked the steering wheel upon landing. The movement rolled the car over multiple times.

“My name is Bob Riggle, and I’m 80 and I’m at Irwindale,” Mr. Leno joked when he was given a concussion test after the crash.

“It doesn’t get more exciting than that,” he said. “I do stuff like this every week. That’s why I have so many cars — I roll half of them half of the time.”

“Jay Leno’s Garage” airs on CNBC this Wednesday at 10 p.m. ET.
