Presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump plans to aggressively court minority voters in the presidential race to break Democratic rival Hillary Clinton’s lock on those voters, Eric Trump said Monday.
Mr. Trump’s son said that the billionaire businessman will target minority voters with his economic and immigration messages, which he said should resonate with those usually loyal Democratic voters who have suffered most in President Obama’s economy.
“We’ll certainly be talking about this a lot over the next four months,” the younger Mr. Trump said on Fox News’ “Fox & Friends” show. “Those communities are, quite frankly, the communities that are hardest hit by her reckless policies and his reckless policies.”
He noted the unemployment rate as high as 57 percent among inner-city youth.
“That is just not sustainable,” he said.
The younger Mr. Trump also pointed to his father’s promise to block a massive influx of Syrian refugees planned by the Obama administration and backed by Mrs. Clinton.
“It’s also very telling when you want to bring in hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of thousands of Syrian refugees when you have 57 percent unemployment in the communities you already have in this country,” he said. “That to me is a big blunder and something she is going to have to answer for.”
Mrs. Clinton holds a commanding lead among minority voters, including winning 87 percent of the black vote and 69 percent of the Latino vote in a NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll released Sunday.
Mr. Trump consistently leads Mrs. Clinton among whites, men and independent voters.
