Newt Gingrich on Sunday quelled rumors that he is being sought as a running mate to presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump.
“Nobody has called me,” Mr. Gingrich said on “Fox News Sunday.” “Nobody has said, ’Would you like to be?’ Nobody has said, ’Would you be willing to be considered?’”
The former House speaker said Mr. Trump likely wouldn’t make a decision until “about two days before Cleveland,” the site of next month’s GOP nominating convention.
“I think Donald Trump does not want to make a decision until the convention,” he said. “I think that he’s a very decisive person.”
Mr. Gingrich, who ran for the Republican presidential nomination in 2012, also said the delayed vice-presidential selection would not be a problem for him, or a few other candidates, who require minimal vetting.
“I mean, you guys have been all over me for a decade,” he said. “It’s all out there. All you’ve got to do is Google.”
