Sen. Marco Rubio on Sunday said he’s not interested in serving as likely GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump’s running mate.
“It’s too late for that,” the Florida Republican said on CBS’ “Face the Nation.”
Mr. Rubio’s name has been floated for vice president after a poll found Republicans and independents would be more open to voting for Mr. Trump with him on the ticket.
The CBS News survey last week showed 27 percent of registered voters said they would be more likely to vote for the billionaire businessman with Mr. Rubio as a running mate, including 26 percent of undecided voters.
But the Florida senator said the idea is not a “viable option.”
“I’m running for the United States Senate from Florida, and you can’t run for two offices at once,” he said.
Mr. Rubio also pointed to his policy disagreements with Mr. Trump.
“The differences in policies that me and Donald have had are too big for something like that to work,” he said. “It would be a distraction, quite frankly, to his campaign.”
