Mark Rober, a former NASA engineer with a popular YouTube channel, has designed what he says is the “world’s largest NERF gun.”

Mr. Rober premiered his giant air-powered toy pistol on the video site on Tuesday where it’s been viewed more than 847,000 times.

As explained in the video, the gun is powered by 3,000-psi paintball canister which is hooked up to large firing chamber. Pressing forward on the trigger releases air into a larger firing chamber. Pulling back on the trigger releases a shot of air at 80 psi into the cylinder, which propels the projectile — in this case a pool noodle — forward.

“This way, you get about 20 shots out of a single tank,” Mr. Rober said.

His YouTube channel page said Mr. Rober, who holds a master’s in mechanical engineering from the University of Southern California, worked at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory “for 9 years, 7 of which were working on the Curiosity Rover.”
