Presumptive GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump downplayed the idea Tuesday that his campaign’s fundraising operations is lackluster, saying his efforts so far have been “incredible” and saying he can always dip into his own pocket for general election funds.

“If need be, there could be unlimited ’cash on hand’ as I would put up my own money, as I have already done through the primaries, spending over $50 million dollars,” Mr. Trump said in a statement. “Our campaign is leaner and more efficient, like our government should be.”

The statement reinforced claims Mr. Trump made on the television talk show circuit Tuesday after he closed out the month of May with $1.3 million in the bank, trailing far behind Democratic presumptive presidential nominee Hillary Clinton, who finished with $42 million cash on hand.

Mr. Trump on Monday fired his campaign manager Corey Lewandowski who played a lead role in the campaign’s fundraising efforts.

On Tuesday, he blamed his fundraising struggles on the lack of support from Republican leaders.
