Corey Lewandowski, who on Monday was fired as presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump’s campaign manager, said on Tuesday that Mr. Trump himself is the campaign’s best strategist.
“It’s been such a small, core group of people for so long, and he has been and is the best strategist for this campaign,” Mr. Lewandowski said on “Fox and Friends,” saying Mr. Trump is the one who “sets the tone.”
Mr. Lewandowski said he still supports Mr. Trump for president and that the real estate mogul can self-fund the campaign if he wants to — a point Mr. Trump himself made in a separate interview on NBC’s “Today” program Tuesday.
“What I think is the campaign needs to grow rapidly,” Mr. Lewandowski said. “You’ve got hyper-growth that you need to experience — 2-, 3-, 400 people probably in the next 90 days or less, and that’s a hard job. … I’ve never grown something that big.”
“Maybe it’s the equivalent of a start-up, and maybe I helped start a small company that grew and then somebody else came in and took it over and you’re proud of what the role is that you had at the beginning of it, but at the end of the day, you want it to be successful,” Mr. Lewandowski said.
“I believe in Donald Trump. I have from day one, from the first time I met him,” he said. “He’s going to be the best president this country’s ever had.”
