The District’s Fox affiliate, WTTG, has hired Martin Di Caro to serve as its transportation contributor, effective June 20.

Mr. Di Caro will report on the rather extensive problems facing the capital region’s transportation infrastructure, not the least of which is the ongoing investment to fix the Metrorail system, which has been plagued by fires and smoke incidents and is in need of billions of upgrade work. Metro had to close the entire system for 29 hours earlier this year, and recently announced that whole sections of track would be closed in phases to bring the aging system up to working condition — a premise that could spell trouble both for commuters who rely on the rail system and on traffic throughout the region as more cars hit the road.

“With all of the mechanical problems surrounding METRO, and the emergency repair work and maintenance surges currently taking place, having an expert like Martin on staff will be of great benefit to FOX 5 and its viewers,” said Fox 5 Vice President and News Director Paul McGonagle in a statement.

A graduate of Ithaca College in upstate New York, Mr. Di Caro also works for Associated Press Radio Network. Previously, he has been on staff at WMAL 630 in the District and at New Jersey 101.5, where he received a regional Edward R. Murrow Award for best new series.

Di Caro currently serves as the transportation reporter for WAMU American University Radio Station, covering all local and regional transit issues. He also works for the Associated Press Radio Network in D.C. and New York. Previously, Di Caro spent time at multiple popular radio stations across the country, including WMAL 630 in DC. While at New Jersey 101.5, he received a regional Edward R. Murrow Award for Best New Series.

A graduate of Ithaca College, Di Carlo holds a Bachelor of Science degree in TV/Radio Production.
