Rep. Jason Chaffetz, Utah Republican, said President Obama gets more fired up talking about Republicans than he does when he’s talking about combating the Islamic State terrorist group.
“I do think Mr. Trump made a very good point yesterday. When you want to see the president fired up, it’s when he’s talking about Republicans,” Mr. Chaffetz, who chairs the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, said in an interview that aired Wednesday on Fox News.
“It’s not when he’s going out and talking about defeating ISIS and protecting the United States of America,” Mr. Chaffetz said. “You don’t see that … fire in that belly. You see it when he wants to talk about Donald Trump.”
“I defy anybody in this country to step forward and tell us what the president’s strategy is to defeat ISIS. He doesn’t have one,” Mr. Chaffetz said.
At a rally in North Carolina Tuesday, presumptive GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump said Mr. Obama appeared angrier at him earlier in the day than at the gunman who killed 49 people and wounded 53 others in Orlando over the weekend at a nightclub.
“And many people said that,” Mr. Trump said. “That’s the kind of anger he should have for the shooter and these killers that shouldn’t be here.”
