Tony Perkins, the president of the Family Research Council, said Friday that President Obama is focused on “the locker rooms and bathrooms of America” as the world is “imploding.”

Mr. Perkins said one of the questions he often gets in church on Sundays back home in Louisiana is “what are those people in Washington thinking?”

“I mean literally, the world is imploding because of America’s failed foreign policy. Our economy continues to sputter. Terrorist attacks are happening on our own streets,” he said at the Faith & Freedom Coalition’s “Road to Majority” conference in Washington, D.C.

“And what is the president of the United States focused on?” Mr. Perkins said. “He’s focused on the locker rooms and bathrooms of America.

“Now I am tempted to say that they are not thinking, but trust me — they are thinking,” he said. “This is the fulfillment of the president’s pledge to fundamentally transform America. And this is why Americans despise what takes place here in Washington, D.C.”

Last month, the Obama administration issued education guidance instructing public schools to allow transgender students to use the bathroom of their gender identity — a move states are challenging in court.
