Hillary Clinton is poised to pick up yet another major endorsement after the AFL-CIO’s political committee on Friday recommended that the powerful union formally back the former first lady.
The committee made its recommendation and advised that the full union endorse Mrs. Clinton at a meeting next week, Politico reported Friday.
The endorsement would mark the latest labor union to back Mrs. Clinton. She’s already been endorsed by SEIU, the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and other labor groups.
Mrs. Clinton this week also picked up endorsements from President Obama, Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren, leading environmental group the Sierra Club and others.
The support underscores the fact that the Democratic Party, and its allies in labor and the environmental movement, are lining up behind the former secretary of state as the party primary comes to a close and preparations begin for the general election campaign against Republican Donald Trump.
Even though the AFL-CIO hasn’t yet formally backed Mrs. Clinton, its president, Richard Trumka, has been an outspoken critic of Mr. Trump and frequently blasts the billionaire businessman on Twitter.
