ASHBURN — For the second consecutive week of organized team activities, Washington Redskins first-round draft pick Josh Doctson was sidelined with an injury.
During rookie camp, the former TCU wide receiver injured one of his Achilles’ tendons, and though he aggravated the injury during last week’s session of OTAs, he was able to participate in practice. On Tuesday, Doctson sustained a different injury in the same foot and was held out of Wednesday’s session as a precaution. It is unclear which foot Doctson has injured. At practice, Doctson primarily worked off to the side.
OTAs can be especially helpful for rookies as they learn the team’s system, but coach Jay Gruden was not overly concerned that the injury will seriously impact Doctson’s development.
“He just hurt his foot yesterday and got some X-rays and everything came back negative, so we kept him out today,” Gruden said. “Hopefully, he’ll be back next week or shortly thereafter. It is important to get these reps, no question about it, but we have other ways to get him to learn the system. We have all the meeting time that will be beneficial to him and all the training camp, the preseason games. I’d be lying if I said these reps weren’t important, but he will have other days.”
Undrafted free agent wide receiver Reggie Diggs is out after having the meniscus scoped in one of his knees and Gruden said he is hopeful the former Richmond product can return by training camp.
