Sen. Marco Rubio will not be attending the Republican convention later this month in Cleveland and instead will be focusing on his re-election campaign in Florida.
“Florida has always been a competitive state, and it will be this fall. Marco had planned to go to the convention before he decided to seek re-election. Since Marco got into the race late, he will be in Florida campaigning and meeting with voters instead of going to Ohio,” Rubio spokeswoman Olivia Perez-Cubas said.
Last month, Mr. Rubio reversed course and announced he would seek re-election, after initially declining to simultaneously run both for president and his Senate seat.
During an appearance on CNN in May — after he suspended his presidential campaign but before he decided to run for re-election — Mr. Rubio said his sense was he’d be going to the convention and appeared willing to speak on Donald Trump’s behalf if asked.
