I just watched FBI Director James B. Comey’s news brief regarding Hillary Clinton’s misuse of a private server — and came away sickened by the results of the FBI’s “investigation” (“On Hillary emails, Comey’s evidence clashes with Comey’s conclusions,” Web, July 5).

One fact that has come out is Mrs. Clinton’s use, over the years, of numerous devices and servers. Another issue: Mrs. Clinton’s attorneys wiped the servers’ emails clean, going by the subject lines and not reading the contents, which had classified information.

All in all, according to Mr. Comey, Mrs. Clinton didn’t commit a prosecutable offense to bring to the Department of Justice. Unlike the charges brought against Gen. David Petraeus, who divulged classified information of a lesser degree to his girlfriend for his autobiography.

It’s apparent to me that the FBI has a double standard in effect when it comes to officials’ violations of the law. To the agency, Mrs. Clinton simply acted stupidly and extremely carelessly, which is different from committing a crime.

What I haven’t heard mentioned is how many of the people with whom Mrs. Clinton emailed lacked security clearance. These individuals were given access to classified information that could have been shared with anyone. I also didn’t hear Mr. Comey make any reference to the investigation regarding the Clinton Foundation and the possible corruption while Mrs. Clinton was secretary of state.

If there ever was a case of a miscarriage of justice, this one tops them all.
