Presumptive GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump spent part of his Fourth of July holiday weekend meeting separately with both Indiana Gov. Mike Pence and Sen. Joni Ernst of Iowa, as he moves closer to announcing his choice for the Republican vice presidential nominee.
Mr. Trump met with Mr. Pence on Saturday, and he met with Ms. Ernst on Monday.
Ms. Ernst, who was first elected in 2014, reported a “good conversation” with Mr. Trump, according to Fox News.
“It was great spending time with @joniernst yesterday. She has done a fantastic job for the people of Iowa and U.S. Will see her again!” Mr. Trump tweeted on Tuesday.
A spokesman for the Indiana governor, meanwhile, told The Associated Press that Mr. Trump and Mr. Pence discussed the governor’s policies and that “nothing was offered.”
Mr. Pence, a former congressman, was first elected as governor in 2012. He threw his support behind Sen. Ted Cruz ahead of the Indiana primary, but had kind words for Mr. Trump then as well.

“Spent time with Indiana Governor Mike Pence and family yesterday. Very impressed, great people!” Mr. Trump tweeted Monday.
Mr. Trump also had kind words on social media for Sen. Tom Cotton of Arkansas, saying on Twitter Monday that Mr. Cotton was “great” on “Meet the Press.”
Other names that have been mentioned as possible vice presidential picks for Mr. Trump include former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, Sen. Jeff Sessions of Alabama and Sen. Bob Corker of Tennessee.
Mr. Corker is reportedly set to join Mr. Trump on the campaign trail on Tuesday in North Carolina.
