OPINION:
While many women see Hillary Clinton’s nomination as the Democratic presidential candidate as a major advance for women, many others wish that the first woman to achieve that milestone had been someone with integrity.
Unfortunately, the first woman Democratic presidential candidate is someone who, as secretary of state, just barely escaped being indicted by the FBI for careless mishandling of highly classified documents. Now, as the nominee, she is under investigation by the IRS for selling influence using the Clinton Foundation to receive bribes. She is also under investigation by the FBI for lying to Congress.
Most women have the instinct to nourish and cherish life, especially new life, but Mrs. Clinton, who is a mother and grandmother, prioritizes killing the preborn right up to the moment of birth. In April 2015 she said: “Far too many women are denied access to reproductive health care and safe childbirth, and laws don’t count for much if they’re not enforced. And deep-seated cultural codes, religious beliefs and structural biases have to be changed.”
This woman wants to force religions that oppose abortion to change their religious tenets. She doesn’t understand that long after she is dead those religions will likely still be defending life. Certainly the Catholic Church will be doing so. It has a history of 2,000 years, surviving even the most brutal dictators.
Mrs. Clinton’s vice-presidential candidate, Sen. Tim Kaine, is as pro-abortion as she is.
For these and other reasons, many women will and should reject her candidacy.
