Sen. Cory Booker refused Sunday to even consider what would happen if presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton were indicted over her exclusive use of a private email server at the State Department, saying it is “not even within the realm of possibility.”
Mr. Booker, New Jersey Democrat, brushed aside the idea that Vermont Sen. Bernard Sanders or a top Democrat might need to step in and lead the party against presumptive GOP nominee Donald Trump in November.
“That’s just not going to happen,” Mr. Booker told CNN’s “State of the Union.”
Mrs. Clinton submitted to an interview with the FBI on Saturday as the Obama administration nears completion of its investigation into her use of a secret email server during her time as State Department secretary.
The practice broke department policy, and nearly two-dozen of the messages she sent or received are now marked “top secret.”
The Clinton campaign confirmed the interview, which took place at FBI headquarters in Washington and lasted more than three hours.

“This is something that she voluntarily did, that last summer she really wanted to do,” Mr. Booker told CNN.
Yet Mr. Booker refused to volunteer whether he is being vetted by the Clinton camp as a candidate for the vice presidential slot, opening the door to assumptions he was, in fact, being considered.
“Please direct it to the Clinton campaign,” Mr. Booker said.
Mr. Booker had stronger feelings about Mr. Trump’s search for a running mate, as speculation centers on New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, Indiana Gov. Mike Pence and a series of other contenders.
“Frankly, I don’t care who you put with Donald Trump. You’re not going to find a good partnership to lead this country,” he said.
