Former Donald Trump chief of staff Corey Lewandowski defended the presumptive GOP presidential nominee’s use of an anti-Hillary Clinton graphic that used a six-point star over piles of cash, saying it looked like the star used by sheriff’s departments instead of the Star of David.
Mr. Trump initially posted the graphic, which says Mrs. Clinton is the “Most Corrupt Candidate Ever!” on his official Twitter account, leading to charges of anti-Semitism.
The billionaire, real-estate mogul took it down and replaced it with one that uses a red circle instead of the star outline.
“It’s the same star that sheriff’s departments across the country use all over the place to represent law enforcement, and to read into something that isn’t there is, you know, I think, again is the mainstream media trying to attack Donald Trump for something that isn’t there,” Mr. Lewandowski told CNN, which hired him as a commentator after Mr. Trump fired him.
CNN then pressed Mr. Lewandowski on Mr. Trump’s decision to replace the graphic, since he said his former boss did nothing wrong.
“This is political correctness run amok,” Mr. Lewandowski said. “If this would have been a star next to Hillary Clinton and didn’t have the cash behind it nobody would be questioning it. This is the mainstream media trying to read into something.”
