Hollywood star and activist Rosario Dawson told fans and voters during the Democratic convention in Philadelphia that Wikileaks has exposed the DNC’s “willingness to be anti-Semitic” and exacerbated a “trust gap” with Hillary Clinton.
The Marvel-Netflix “Daredevil” actress took part in a broadcast with the Young Turks on Wednesday and was asked about her willingness to support Mrs. Clinton’s presidential campaign. Ms. Dawson has been an ardent supporter of Vermont Sen. Bernard Sanders.
“There’s a lot of talk about unity, but we’re not feeling it, we’re not seeing it, it’s not being reflected to individual delegates I’ve spoken to,” Ms. Dawson said. “When Debbie Wasserman Schultz resigns because of the DNC leaks and is immediately hired and there’s nothing in the statement from Hillary Clinton that even acknowledges the reason why she’s now available to run her campaign, there’s already a trust gap, there’s already a feeling that there isn’t integrity there.”
Mrs. Wasserman Schultz was forced to step down from her role as DNC chairman after nearly 20,000 documents showed the organization actively working to undermine Mr. Sanders’ campaign.
An email by DNC Chief Financial Officer Brad Marshall suggested someone ask about the senator’s religion.
“Does he believe in a God? He had skated on saying he has a Jewish heritage,” Mr. Marshall said in the leaked email. “I think I read he is an atheist. This could make several points difference with my peeps. My Southern Baptist peeps would draw a big difference between a Jew and an atheist.”
Mrs. Dawson said such emails are irrefutable proof that “it has not been a fair fight. It’s been an ugly fight. The DNC leaks just showed this weekend that there was a willingness to be anti-Semitic in order to push back against Bernie Sanders. That’s big, and that’s not being acknowledged.”
The DNC apologized for its treatment of Mr. Sanders on the opening day of the Democratic convention.
“On behalf of everyone at the DNC, we want to offer a deep and sincere apology to Senator Sanders, his supporters, and the entire Democratic Party for the inexcusable remarks made over email,” the group said in a statement released July 25.
Wikileaks founder Julian Assange told CNN on Wednesday that more embarrassing documents will be released in the weeks ahead.
Mr. Assange said Mrs. Clinton’s campaign is using “speculative allegations about hacks that have occurred in the past” to blame Russian actors, but that such efforts may result in her surrogates with “egg on their faces” if certain sources come forward.
