PHILADELPHIA — Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus said in an interview that aired Monday he wouldn’t be surprised if Hillary Clinton personally knew about the issues surrounding the Democratic National Committee and Mrs. Clinton’s campaign, recently revealed in a trove of internal DNC communications.

“I would imagine that Hillary Clinton and her campaign — my guess is they’re going to call for [an] ’investigation,’ but the truth is they were benefiting from it all,” Mr. Priebus said on “Fox and Friends.”

“I wouldn’t be surprised if Hillary Clinton knew full well that the DNC was working with them and for them the whole way through, and now they’re sort of going to act like they didn’t know what was going on,” he said. “They know exactly [what] was going on.”

“I’m sure that there were comms people and senior staffers at the DNC communicating regularly with Hillary Clinton’s campaign and if people were out there in favor of Bernie Sanders, they should be outraged by what they saw here at the DNC,” Mr. Priebus said.

As the Democratic National Convention was getting set to kick off on Monday, WikiLeaks released thousands of emails that appeared to show DNC staff openly musing about a narrative that Sen. Bernard Sanders’ campaign was a mess, among other revelations.

Mr. Priebus said Debbie Wasserman Schultz’s new position as honorary chair of the Clinton campaign’s “50-state program” emphasizes the fact that she was “in the tank” anyway — but said it was probably created to provide her a soft landing.

“But it also is probably a made-up position that people do when folks transition out of [an] embarrassing situation,” he said.
