PHILADELPHIA | Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort said Sunday that Hillary Clinton should follow the example of Democratic National Committee Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz and quit the presidential race.
“Debbie Wasserman Schultz resigned over her failure to secure the DNC’s email servers and the rigged system she set up with the Clinton campaign. Now Hillary Clinton should follow Wasserman Schultz’s lead and drop out over her failure to safeguard top secret, classified information both on her unauthorized home server and while traveling abroad,” Mr. Manafort said in a statement.
Mrs. Wasserman Schultz abruptly resigned Sunday, just as the Democratic National Convention was set to open here Monday to nominate Mrs. Clinton. She said she resigned because she had become a distraction after emails revealed by WikiLeaks showed that top DNC officials attempted to sabotage the candidacy of Mrs. Clinton’s primary rival, Sen. Bernard Sanders.
The email became public after hackers broke into the DNC email system.
“Wasserman Schultz’s emails only put the Democratic Party at risk, but Hillary Clinton’s emails put all of America at risk,” said Mr. Manafort, referring to Mrs. Clinton’s secret email server as secretary of state that the FBI said put U.S. secrets at risk.
