CLEVELAND — Sen. Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts told late-night TV host Stephen Colbert that if she were Hillary Clinton’s vice presidential pick, she’d probably know it by now.
“I think if it were me, I would know it by now, so probably not,” she said when Mr. Colbert asked backstage if he could announce her as Mrs. Clinton’s running mate on his show.
“But look — she has lots of good choices, and I’m excited to see who she’s going to pick,” Ms. Warren said.
Ms. Warren then shut a door backstage at CBS’s “The Late Show” that said “VIP — Elizabeth Warren.” Mr. Colbert removed the “I” so it said “VP.”
On the show, Ms. Warren said the Republican National Convention in Ohio this week was “the nastiest, most divisive convention that we’ve seen in half a century.”
Ms. Warren also said Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump “sounded like some two-bit dictator” in his convention speech.
“He sounded like a dictator of a small country, rather than a man who is running for the highest office of the strongest democracy on the face of this earth,” she said.
Former Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm, an early supporter of Mrs. Clinton, said on Friday she thinks the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee will select Sen. Tim Kaine of Virginia as her running mate, but also mentioned Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack and Labor Secretary Tom Perez as good would-be choices.
“I love these guys, all of them, but I do think the smart money is on Tim Kaine,” Ms. Granholm said on CNN’s “New Day.” “But I love Tom Vilsack. … I love Tom Perez. They’re all good.”
Mrs. Clinton will formally receive the Democratic presidential nomination at the party’s convention in Philadelphia next week.
