The Washington Wizards are one step closer to completing their offseason moves.
The team announced Thursday that it has signed guard/wing Tomas Satoransky. His deal is reportedly for three years and $9 million.
The Wizards drafted Satoransky, 24, in the second of round in 2012. Since, he has played overseas. Washington held his rights while Satoransky played for Barcelona in the ABC League and Sevilla in Spain.
Satoransky is a 6-foot-7, 210-pound combo player who can play small forward or guard. He provides the Wizards depth at both positions, where they needed more bodies.
“We are very pleased to be able to bring Tomas to the organization after monitoring his development overseas for the last several years,” Wizards general manager Ernie Grunfeld said. “He will provide energy and athleticism at both guard positions, giving us more depth and versatility in the backcourt.”
Last season, the Prague native averaged 10.7 points and 4.3 assists while shooting .439 from three-point range in 43 games for Barcelona in the ACB League.
His signing clears the way for the Wizards to sign restricted free agent Bradley Beal to a maximum contract. Washington had to sign all other free agents it had verbal agreements with before it could have its salary cap space properly structured to sign Beal.
