Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida called for unity Thursday in a video message at the Republican National Convention, urging party activists to rally behind Donald Trump and assuring them that the New York billionaire is poised to put the nation on a more conservative path.

“After allowing a spirited primary, the time for fighting each other is over,” Mr. Rubio said. “It is time to come together and fight for a new direction for America.”

Mr. Rubio said that Mr. Trump is committed to cut taxes, curb spending and get the nation’s national debt under control. He also said that Mr. Trump is committed to nominating constitutional judges.

Mr. Rubio’s endorsement of Mr. Trump following a bruising primary season in which the Florida Republican described Mr. Trump as a “con artist” and mocked the size of his hands.

Mr. Trump countered by coining Mr. Rubio as “Little Marco.”
