Sharon Day, co-chair of the Republican National Committee, broached the thorny subject of former President Clinton’s troubled past Tuesday, using her address at the GOP’s convention to call him a sexual abuser.
Ms. Day said Hillary Clinton, Democrats’ presumptive presidential nominee, must be denied a return to the White House both because of her own record and because she “viciously attacked the character of women who were sexually abused at the hands of your husband.”
“Not that woman, not Hillary Clinton, not today, not ever,” Ms. Day said.
She did not go into details, but Mr. Clinton during his tenure as Arkansas governor and later as president faced accusations from a number of women that he harassed, assaulted or even raped them.
Earlier in the campaign GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump had said Mr. Clinton’s record would be fair game, as would Mrs. Clinton’s actions at the time in defending her husband against the accusations.
Mr. Clinton denied some of the allegations but ended up admitting to at least several affairs. He also settled a sexual harassment lawsuit filed by former Arkansas state employee Paula Jones, paying out $850,000.
