A teenager who was sexually violated as a mob of young men in Cologne on New Year’s Eve sexually assaulted female revelers says she became pregnant as a result of her rape, the Daily Telegraph reported on Friday.

“The young woman, who has not been named, was held down and raped in the middle of the crowded square outside the city’s main station, according to the claims,” the Telegraph reported.

The 18-year-old alleged rape victim, who hasn’t publicly come forward, subsequently procured an abortion, the paper noted.

The victim’s story was relayed in parliamentary testimony by Frauke Mahr, of the nonprofit group the Lobby for Young Women.

“Eventually, she ended up on the ground with a man on top of her. She could see his face,” the Telegraph quoted Ms. Mahr as telling the North Rhine-Westphalia state parliament. “She could see another girl lying on the ground a few metres away and tried to signal to her to close her eyes, but the man turned her head away.”

“Hundreds of women were sexually assaulted in the area around Cologne’s main station on New Year’s Eve, but this is the first claim of full penetrative rape,” the Telegraph said.

The alleged victim “went to a hospital with severe injuries, and was kept there for several days,” the Telegraph reported. “She later discovered she was pregnant. Although it was not clear whether the rape had caused the pregnancy, she chose to have an abortion.”

“The young woman is still undergoing counselling” and “has declined to file a criminal complaint over the case,” the Telegraph said.
