Likely Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton reported a positive conversation with Senate Democrats at the U.S. Capitol Thursday that touched on building a strong party and tackling problems she said Republicans have ignored.
Mrs. Clinton, who was elected twice to the U.S. Senate representing New York, said the conversation “really focused on the very positive difference that Democrats want to make in the lives of Americans — particularly when it comes to economic opportunity, to tackle the problems that unfortunately have been ignored by the Republican majority.”
“To be really concerned with how we build a strong Democratic party, not just for this election but beyond,” she told reporters after she emerged from the closed-door meeting. “And I’m going to do everything I can to work with my friends and colleagues here to make that happen.”
Earlier in the day, Mrs. Clinton said likely Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump was “temperamentally unfit” to be president during a speech before a Latino group in Washington, D.C.
She was scheduled to campaign with Sen. Tim Kaine, who has been mentioned as a possible vice presidential pick, later Thursday afternoon in Northern Virginia.
