NBC News Capitol Hill correspondent Luke Russert announced Wednesday he’s leaving the network to pursue “other endeavors.”
Mr. Russert made the announcement via Twitter. According to a statement, his last day on the job will be Friday.
“Bit of personal news,” he tweeted Wednesday morning, linking to a photo of the joint statement from himself and NBC, which said he has “decided to leave NBC News to take time away from political reporting and to pursue other interests.”
“It has been a privilege and an honor for me to have worked for NBC News for the last eight years,” Mr. Russert said in the statement. “I will always be eternally grateful for all the opportunities I’ve received and all the incredible people I’ve gotten to know along the way.”
The 30-year-old son of the late “Meet the Press” host Tim Russert got his start with the network shortly after his father’s sudden passing in June 2008, something he addressed in his statement.
“It’s fair to say my broadcast career began in an unusual way after college graduation and the death of my father,” Mr. Russert wrote. “As a result, I never took the time to reflect, to travel and to experience many thing that would have given me a clearer sense of what my future should be.
“Now at 30, I look forward to taking some time away from political reporting and focusing my efforts on other endeavors that I’ve long wanted to pursue,” he said.
