Corey Lewandowski, Donald Trump’s former campaign manager, said on Friday that Attorney General Loretta Lynch should “absolutely” recuse herself from overseeing the FBI’s investigation into Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server as secretary of state.
“What I suggest is she should absolutely recuse herself,” Mr. Lewandowski said on CNN’s “New Day.”
Republicans have stepped up their calls for Ms. Lynch to recuse herself in light of a private meeting the attorney general held earlier in the week with former President Clinton at an airport in Arizona. Ms. Lynch said the meeting touched mainly on personal matters and that the investigation did not come up.
But The New York Times, citing a Justice Department official, reported Friday that Ms. Lynch plans to announce that she will accept whatever recommendation career prosecutors and the FBI make about whether to bring charges against Mrs. Clinton, the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee.
“The optics are terrible. It should have never been done. She should have never been on that airplane,” Mr. Lewandowski said. “This is a disaster, and this is the problem with Washington, D.C.”
