Thieves in Southeast Washington apparently didn’t the message D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser was sending Wednesday: They broke into an ABC7 News car as its reporters were covering her press conference on stopping robberies.
The local TV news outlet reported the incident on its website.
“Thieves tore through the news vehicle early Wednesday afternoon and a culprit smashed a window out of the car and stole a cache of equipment,” ABC7 reported.
The thievery occurred in broad daylight just a few feet from where Ms. Bowser was conducting a press conference with Metropolitan Police Chief Cathy L. Lanier at the Eastern Market Metro station.
Ms. Bowser announced the creation of a Robbery Intervention Task Force that will aim to coordinate efforts among law enforcement agencies to keep repeat robbers off the streets.
