Versatile Washington Redskins defensive back Kyshoen Jarrett will not play Sunday against the Green Bay Packers because of a shoulder injury, coach Jay Gruden said on Monday.
Jarrett was injured after a helmet-to-helmet hit on Sunday in the first quarter of the Redskins’ win over the Dallas Cowboys. Jarrett left the game to be evaluated for a concussion. He did not return.
“Kyshoen, the neck is fine, everything came back in a positive way, but we’re concerned about the nerve that affects his right arm,” Gruden said. “We’re going to do more tests on that and go from there.”
Cornerback Dashaun Phillips was placed on a board, immobilized and driven off the field after a collision in the second quarter.
“Dashaun Phillips, looks like he is going to be OK,” Gruden said. “Everything came back positive. Looks like a stinger, quite frankly. We’ll see how he’s doing [Tuesday] when he comes in here and see if he can practice Wednesday.”
Jarrett is a multi-positional defender who has played at nickelback and safety this season for the Redskins.
“It has an effect, it really does, because he’s so versatile,” Gruden said.
In better health news, center Kory Lichtensteiger is expected to return to practice this week.
Lichtensteiger, who has battled weakness in his left shoulder after sustaining a nerve injury, was placed on injured reserve with a designation to return on Nov. 10.
“He feels really, really good,” Gruden said.
Gruden did not yet commit to Lichtensteiger returning as the starting center, but he will be back at practice this week with that as the likely outcome for Sunday. Josh LeRibeus had taken over center in Lichtensteiger’s absence. At times, LeRibeus has struggled snapping the ball.
