Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump on Monday slammed President Obama’s plans for executive action on gun control, saying that pretty soon, people won’t be able to get guns and that the president is more interested in golfing than forging consensus on the issue.
“Well, pretty soon, you won’t be able to get guns,” Mr. Trump said on CNN’s “New Day.” “It’s another step in the way of not getting guns.”
“It’s supposed to be negotiated,” Mr. Trump said. “You’re supposed to cajole, get people in a room. You’re supposed to deal with [them]. You have Republicans, you have Democrats, you have all these people — they get elected to do this stuff. And you’re supposed to get together and pass a law.”
“You know, he doesn’t want to do that because it’s too much work,” the real estate mogul said. “So he doesn’t want to work too hard. He wants to go back and play golf.”
Mr. Trump said Mr. Obama has “been away for two weeks playing golf, OK? You know, he’s not exactly trying very hard to get it done.”
Mr. Obama is meeting with Attorney General Loretta Lynch Monday to talk about the executive actions he can take on gun control. In his weekly address last week, he pointed out how a proposal to increase gun-purchase background checks failed several years ago in the U.S. Senate.

Mr. Trump said not enough is said about the mental health side of the issue and that attacks like the recent one in Paris could have been mitigated if more people had guns.
“What I do see is I do see step by step by step, and then all of a sudden, you have no Second Amendment,” Mr. Trump said. “I do see that happening. You’ll have steps, these little baby steps — and some of them aren’t so baby.”
“Now in all fairness, I don’t know what Obama’s proposing, [because] nobody’s really said what he’s proposing,” he said. “I have to look at what he says, I really do. I want to see what he says, I want to see why he couldn’t get this approved by Congress, why can’t he go in and get this approved.”
