(1) Candidates and God on the Campaign Trail, by Francis X. Clines (New York Times)

Religion is very much a factor in the closing frenzy of the Iowa caucus vote next Monday as Mr. Trump and Senator Ted Cruz compete for what’s considered the evangelical vote. Mr. Cruz, the son of a Christian preacher, had a strong lead in polls of evangelicals but some surveys show his advantage shrinking after Mr. Trump secured the political blessings of Sarah Palin and Jerry Falwell Jr., the president of Liberty University and son of the late evangelical leader.

(2) Here’s the backstory of why I endorsed Donald Trump, by Jerry Falwell Jr

Over two decades of struggles, Liberty eventually moved from the edge of bankruptcy to become the most successful and prosperous Christian university in the world. I believe the United States is now where Liberty University was in the early 1990s, and we need an experienced businessman who has bought troubled companies and turned them around, sometimes through bankruptcy laws

…Jesus said “Judge not, lest ye be judged.” Let’s stop trying to choose the political leaders who we believe are the most godly because, in reality, only God knows people’s hearts. You and I don’t, and we are all sinners.

(3) Pro-life Women Sound the Alarm: Donald Trump is Unacceptable

The next president will be responsible for as many as four nominations to the Supreme Court. Mr. Trump has given us only one indication about the type of judges he would appoint, and it does not bode well for those who would like to see the court overturn Roe v. Wade. Mr. Trump has said his sister, Judge Maryanne Trump Barry, who struck down the Partial Birth Abortion Ban in New Jersey, would be a “phenomenal” choice for the court. Earlier this month, Mr. Trump also said he thought pro-choice Senator Scott Brown would make a “very good” Vice President. If one truly believes, as we do, that abortion is the taking of an innocent human life and is committed to the pro-life priorities of ending abortion after five months, and defunding the nation’s largest abortion business, Planned Parenthood, it would be a disaster to have a vice president who disagrees.

(4) Catholics and Evangelicals Work Together to Ban Payday Lending Ahead of Caucus Season (The Tablet)

Ahead of the Iowa caucuses that begin the formal process of picking the Republican presidential contender, the public policy arm of Iowa’s Bishops’ Conference and an Iowa-based evangelical organisation are working together to put payday lending on the agenda, reports Catholic News Service.

(5) Meet the Sassy Senator Campaigning Against Donald Trump (TIME)

“We are in a moment of constitutional crisis. America already has one post-constitutional party; we don’t need another,” Sasse said in a statement. “I’m pro-Constitution, and if that makes me anti-Trump, that’s Mr. Trump’s problem.”
