Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders slammed Donald Trump on Sunday for bringing up former President Bill Clinton’s “sexual life” as a 2016 campaign issue.
“I think, you know, we have enormous problems facing this country, and I think we’ve got more things to worry about than Bill Clinton’s sexual life,” Mr. Sanders said on ABC’s “This Week.”
Mr. Trump has called the ex-president’s relationships with women “fair game” as Mr. Clinton prepares to campaign Monday in New Hampshire on behalf of his wife, Democratic presidential front-runner Hillary Rodham Clinton.
“Fair game? No, I think we’ve got more important things to worry about in this country than Bill Clinton’s sex life,” said Mr. Sanders on CNN’s “State of the Union.”
Mr. Sanders, who’s challenging Mrs. Clinton for the Democratic nomination, ticked off a number of issues, including climate change and “tax breaks for billionaires,” saying, “Maybe Trump should worry about those issues rather than Bill Clinton’s sex life.”
Mr. Trump made it clear Saturday that he plans to cite Mr. Clinton’s past if he brings up women’s issues on the campaign trail.
Mr. Clinton’s alleged affairs with several women became a source of controversy during his presidency, while one woman has accused him of rape. Mr. Clinton has denied the allegations.
“I hope Bill Clinton starts talking about women’s issues so that voters can see what a hypocrite he is and how Hillary abused those women!” Mr. Trump said on Twitter.
