SIOUX CITY, Iowa | Will Donald Trump’s declaration that he could shoot someone and it wouldn’t damage his candidacy come back to haunt him?
Don’t ask his rivals for the Republican presidential nomination.
“I don’t know. It seems like nothing hurts him,” Ben Carson told reporters Saturday after an appearance here at the Christian gathering Revive 714.
Not that Mr. Carson would employ such an analogy.
“I certainly wouldn’t use that rhetoric, but you know, he’s the Donald,” Mr. Carson, a retired neurosurgeon, said with a laugh.
At a Saturday rally in Sioux Center, Iowa, Mr. Trump drew headlines when he said, “I could stand in the middle of Fifth Avenue and shoot somebody and I wouldn’t lose voters,” apparently referring to the loyalty of his supporters.
Texas Sen. Ted Cruz wouldn’t touch Mr. Trump’s comment, either.
“I will let Donald speak for himself,” Mr. Cruz told CNN. “I can say I have no intention of shooting anybody in this campaign.”
