New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie said Monday that President Obama is living in his “own world” in the wake of new developments with Iran and that Iranians wouldn’t think they’d be able to steal the United States’ “lunch money” if Mr. Christie were president.
“This president lives in his own world,” Mr. Christie said on Fox News. “He lives in a fantasy land if he believe that’s the product of strong American diplomacy, that he pays ransom, again, to terrorists, to the largest state sponsor of terrorism.
“The same people who took our naval sailors and had them on their knees with their hands on their hands, the same people who burned the American flag and chant ’death to America’ — they pick this president’s pocket day after day after day, and they make a fool of him, and a fool of our country,” Mr. Christie continued.
After the nuclear deal with Iran was implemented Saturday and the U.S. secured the release of Americans that had been held in Iran, Mr. Obama said Sunday at the White House: “This is a good day because once again we’re seeing what’s possible with strong American diplomacy.”
Mr. Christie said he’s happy that the released Americans will be back home again.
“But this president is just encouraging more and more of this conduct going forward … if every time an American gets taken he’s going to pay a ransom,” he said.
Asked what he would have done as president, Mr. Christie said, “Well first off, we wouldn’t have a policy … that would allow this kind of thing to happen.”
“The Iranians wouldn’t think that they could steal our lunch money every day, which is what they’re doing,” he said. “For this president, he has shown this weakness, and his inability to be able to project American strength, and we won’t have that problem when I’m in the Oval Office [on] January 20th of 2017.”
